Helping young children acquire a profound, well structured understanding of ALL aspects of the basic numbers 1 to 10 and the numerals up to 20 has never been easier. Let's visit Numberland is an imaginative, highly efficient and motivating yet very down-to-earth early math concept. It is designed consequently from a child's point of view: How do they see the world? What can they build on? How do they think? What do they need and like? The idea: On their fantastic, cheerful journey to Numberland, the children meet the numbers One to Ten as nice, living characters who motivate them to deal with mathematical aspects and coherences. The children build and furnish gardens with housese and towers for the numbers in Number Town, and move on Number Lane. There are lots of active games, music and tales, a goblin messing around and a fairy, as well as other things children love. As an open concept, Numberland is not a strict programme but provides a motivating and structuring frame. Both children and staff are encouraged to bring in own ideas and matching activities. The elements can be easily adapted to individual needs and age brackets. Our concept has found wide acceptance in Germany since we have initiated it in 2003. Throughout the years we have been enjoying the many benefits children, also our own, got out of Numberland. These benefits go well beyond an enduring and thorough understanding of the basic numbers. They additionally comprise language competence and soft skills such as concentration, cognition, social and motor skills, creative and music skills. It is great to see how much Numberland supports teachers and educational staff in their work. Scientific studies confirmed the positive effects of our Numberland concept. We could prove that
within only ten weeks children aged 3
to 6 gained
the mathematical competence and understanding they normally would have
achieved only within one year. The
same was true for the language skills. The University of Heidelberg,
Germany, recently confirmed
our findings in a second study. Thus our numberland
concept is the only scientifically approved numberland concept.
First feedback from the US shows that Numberland works internationally. The project of a K1 group in Texas was based on our book Let's visit Numberland and Carola, the teacher, gives very positive feedback (See column on the right. Download her full comment and pictures). Making it happen (See column on the right) Our comprehensive practical guide to Let's visit Numberland includes useful background information, explains the concept and provides detailed, yet easy hands-on ideas on how to plan and carry out a Numberland project that meets your specific requirements. The book also contains tales for the numbers 1 to 10 and a CD with carefully composed songs. Together with our partner, the Wehrfritz company, we have developed a range of optional, yet long lasting materials with a high stimulative nature and meeting different needs. Our flyer and a video give a small impression of Let's visit Numberland resp. Willy's World of Numbers. On request, we offer hands on seminars, too, providing you with all you need to easily get started. We will soon have direct contacts in the US. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact us.

First feedback from the field in the United States K1 teacher Carola Hauer-Berry (Texas, USA): "Number Land is a fun and exciting way to teach children about the world of numbers. My class fully embraced the number puppets, their gardens, houses and of course their favorite, the naughty goblin Hodgeypodgey. The fantasy world of the numbers adds an intriguing aspect, the hands-on manipulatives make it a'real' number learning experience. I have never seen children so excited and motivated to learn about numbers as with Number Land. I also like how all kinds of information is woven into the 'Number Stories'. (For example - the 6 colors of a rainbow and how to mix colors) Who would have known that learning about numbers is so much fun - what a great concept !!!"
